EMI Analyst™ (U.S. Patent # 7,222,033) combines the extensive features of CE Analyst™, RE Analyst™, CS Analyst™, and RS Analyst™ to provide users with cost-effective, accurate EMI compliance predictions for a wide range of circuits and systems.

General

  • Easy to learn – You don't have to be an EMI expert; bridges the gap between circuit design and electromagnetics.
  • Easy to use – Models electronic systems using the physical and electrical parameters readily available to the circuit designer.
  • Powerful – Uses advanced numerical analysis, transmission line theory, and circuit theory, to model a wide range of EMI problems.
  • Accurate – Accounts for parasitic elements, resonant effects, and ground plane interaction to accurately predict emissions and susceptibility as they will be measured in the EMI laboratory.

Universal

EMI Analyst™ supports EMI requirements from all industries and all regulatory agencies worldwide, including:

  • Military
  • Aviation
  • Automotive
  • Medical
  • Industrial
  • Consumer electronics
  • DoD – MIL-STD-461
  • FAA – DO-160
  • FCC – CFR Part 15
  • EU – EN55011, EN55022

Frequency Range

EMI calculations at all frequencies of interest.

  • 1 Hz to 100 GHz (application-dependent)
  • Linear or logarithmic steps
  • Resolution 1 Hz (linear), 1000 pts/decade (logarithmic)

EMI Limits

All EMI limits, all agencies and custom limits. User definable and fully customizable.

  • Up to 1000 frequency/amplitude waypoints
  • 1 Hz to 100 GHz
  • Amps, Volts, dBuA, dBuV, and custom units
  • Amplitudes from 1E-12 to 1E+12

EMI Noise Sources

Model the EMI characteristics of voltage and current waveforms used in your electrical and electronic circuits. Define nearly any waveform using the eight built-in waveform templates. EMI Analyst™ calculates the frequency spectrum, both differential mode and common mode.

  • Gated sinusoid
  • Trapezoid
  • Double exponential
  • Damped sinusoid
  • Inductive switching transient
  • Pulse-modulated sine
  • Ringing trapezoid
  • Piece-wise linear waveform

EMI Filters

Accurately synthesize EMI filtering using the built-in schematic capture program. Choose from ideal and realistic components and fully customize to model the characteristics of components and packaging.

  • Resistors, inductors, capacitors, ferrite beads
  • Coupled inductors, differential mode and common mode
  • LISNs, feed-through capacitors, standard terminations
  • Wired and printed circuit interconnects

Conductors

Account for loading, coupling, mismatch, and resonant effects of cabling using eight fully configurable conductor configurations. Select length, wire gauge, separation, ground plane, and shield dimensions to match your system interconnects.

  • Unshielded wire pair
  • Unshielded wire over ground plane
  • Shielded single wire
  • Unshielded wire triple
  • Unshielded wire pair over ground plane
  • Shielded single wire over ground plane
  • Shielded wire pair
  • Shield wire pair over ground plane

Cable Shields

Calculate shield transfer impedance, the true figure of merit for cable shielding effectiveness, using shield physical parameters, such as:

  • Number of Strands
  • Strand Diameters or Wall Thickness
  • Weave Angle
  • Strand Material
  • Optical Coverage
  • Solid wall and woven wire braid cable shields.

    Shield Terminations

Account for shield termination method and its effect on cable shielding effectiveness.

    • Peripheral Shield Terminations
    • Wire Pigtail Terminations
    • Braid Pigtails
    • Flat Conductor Pigtails
    • Terminations at one end or both ends

    Load Circuits

Take into account the loading and resonant effects of circuitry to which your system is connected by accurately modeling those circuits. Account for the non-linear loading effects of Line Impedance Stabilization Networks required for standardized EMI tests.

Uses built-in schematic capture described above.

    Display Results

View predicted calculated results that look just like measured results.

    • Graph output, extensively customizable
    • Limit overlay
    • Tabular output shows frequency, amplitude, limit, and margin

    Self-Teaching Tool

EMI Analyst™ is an invaluable tool for understanding the causes of electromagnetic interference and the most effective methods of mitigation.

    • Gain insight into causes of interference
    • Learn what works and what doesn't work
    • Study design trade-offs between filtering, shielding, and cable routing
    • Quickly run test scenarios to find the most effective and most cost-effective methods for meeting EMI requirements
