Allowable Component Values
Element values in the Component Library must be positive
real numbers between 1E-21 and 1E21 inclusive. Although values in this
range are accepted by the Component Library, limitations of digital computing
may return unexpected results if the entered values are very large or very
small. Component values in the range of generally available electrical
components are recommended for best results.
EMI Analyst uses double-precision floating point
numbers, which are limited to 15 decimal places of accuracy. When very
large or very small numbers are computed this limitation may produce in
erroneous results. This phenomenon is not a limitation of EMI
Analyst, but rather is a limitation of digital computers and is inherent in
all computations in all programs. However, because EMI Analyst
performs computations that may involve a very wide range of numeric values, care
must be taken not to use unnecessarily large or small values. Wherever
possible, EMI Analyst will flag the user when values computed may have
been compromised by this limitation.
