Creating a New CE Analyst Project

When a new conducted emissions analysis is initiated the CE model is built sequentially.  The basic steps are:

1.  Enter Frequency Range -- Enter the frequency range over which to analyze the circuit for conducted emissions.

2.  Specify a CE Limit -- Input the limit against which to compare calculated conducted emissions.  Limits may be created using the Limit form when the CE project is being built or may be loaded from file if built previously.

3.  Define Source parameters -- Enter the time-domain characteristics of the circuit voltage and current waveforms.  CE Analyst converts the time-domain waveforms to their frequency domain equivalent spectrums over the frequency range specified in step 1 above.  Previously saved source models may be loaded from file.

4.  Build Filter model -- Using the schematic capture program that is built into CE Analyst build a schematic diagram of those electrical components that lie between the Source and the ConductorsFilter components are selected from the Component Library.  Enter values to match the characteristics of the actual components used.

5.  Specify Conductor parameters -- Select the conductor configuration that most closely matches the circuit under investigation.  Eight different cable configurations allow nearly all common conductors to be modeled.

6.  Define Shield construction, as applicable -- For shielded conductors enter the parameters that define how the shield is constructed.  These values are used to calculate shield transfer impedance, which is used in determining shielding effectiveness of the shield.

7.  Specify Shield Termination parameters, as applicable -- For each end of shielded conductor select a termination method and enter parameters that define how the termination is constructed.

8.  Build Load model -- Using the schematic capture program build a schematic diagram of the electric circuit to which the conductors are connected.  Select components from the Component Library and enter values to match the characteristics of the components used in the load circuit of the system under investigation.

9.  Calculate and display conducted emissions -- With the information above entered, CE Analyst calculates the current and voltage for each component in the filter and load and at each end of the conductors.  At the completion of calculations voltage and current are displayed graphically or numerically by simply selecting the desired observation point.
