Pigtails are a common method used to ground cable shields.  Pigtails ground the cable shield through a conductor that is connected at one end to the shield and at the other end to the ground.  Pigtails are typically fabricated from circular wires, flat conductors, or woven wire braid.

The shield-end of the pigtail is typically soldered or crimped to the shield.  The ground-end of the pigtail is often terminated to a ring lug, which is fastened to the ground conductor, but any suitable method for making an electrical connection between the pigtail and ground may be used.

Note:  The effectiveness of the cable shield may be adversely affected by the pigtail since the pigtail may introduce significant impedance between the shield and the ground conductor.
