Interference Sources
The proliferation of electronic devices over the last two
decades has produced a serious and very real electromagnetic interference (EMI)
problem. While semiconductor devices have become smaller and faster they
have also become more responsive to (RF)
interference because of lower susceptibility thresholds and higher
bandwidths. Simultaneously, the number of products that produce
significant electromagnetic fields has increased dramatically. One only
has to look at the growth of the telecommunications industry to get a glimpse at
the number of potential sources of interfering RF fields. As a result,
almost every industry using electronics in their products now requires some
degree of testing to guarantee a known level of immunity to electromagnetic
